GOLDFINGER

LAYE

Hot off her set-up track “likefck” (spring 2018), laye drops this sultry slow jam produced by Lauren Christy (who's worked with G-Eazy, DuaLipa) and Federico Vindver (who's worked with Jennifer Lopez, Lauryn Hill, Pitbull). "Goldfinger” keeps the element of mystique front and centre as laye continues to develop her own sound as an artist, working towards her debut LP (2019).
Born in Montreal, laye is a unique new artist, a multi-instrumentalist (piano/keys, guitar and ukulele) with a striking vocal style, prolific songwriting ability and a dark dreamy aesthetic that informs everything from her music to her social media feeds.

She is never complacent, always inspired and as she is focused on establishing herself as a singer/songwriter, she considers her overall aesthetic to be equally important when it comes to her musical identity.
I’ve always been a quiet person. Singing allowed me to not only discover who I am but also to express it,” says laye of her development to becoming an artist.

Specifically “goldfinger” and its lyrics are expressively dynamic. The slow brooding build transcends a sense of loss with the passion of triumph. The song takes a confident, self-assured stance on relationships that have gone bad letting the people that have hurt you know they have - but also letting them know you're fully over it. For laye, emotions are at the heart of her creative inspiration.
“I believe that the feeling behind a song is equally as important as the lyric. Often times I have connected songs to moments based on the feeling alone.” - laye

laye's desire for new experiences, learning and collaboration drew her to Toronto, Los Angeles, New York and beyond. She ravenously attended writing and recording sessions and kept adding songs to her works-in-progress. Between August 2017 and April 2018 laye wrote approximately 50 songs working with established producers including Lauren Christy (G-Eazy “Me Myself and I”, Dua Lipa “Blow Your Mind”), FNZ (G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky, Denzel Curry, Fetty Wap), Ben Harrison & Ibrahim Asmar (Rihanna, Rita Ora, James Arthur, Blvk Jvck), Pomo (Anderson .Paak, Mac Miller).

It’s only been about three years since laye first started to experiment with making her own music, but she is already carving out a unique artistic path.

With every new experience comes new inspiration,” laye says of that exciting road ahead.
I’m always grateful to be put in new situations and have opportunities to grow because learning and evolving are important to me as an artist. The last year has been such a period of growth. I’m looking forward to sharing my creations with the world.
