The Strengths Of Music f
What is music to me?
In 2014-15, someone very special to me opened up this entirely new pathway of music for me. I was honestly shook. I had no idea how much I LOVED music and how interesting it can be. I am thankful for him, because without this introduction, I probably would not have had the idea to create BabyPink today.
For 2 years, I spent everyday listening, exploring and discovering new music. I started off with playlists that gave me the underlying knowledge of music, basically the most influential artists we see today. I discovered some of my all time favourite albums. For example, these are just off the top of my head, Channel ORANGE, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Section.80, Acid Rap, Kaleidoscope Dream, One In a Million, and so much more. I swear, no exaggeration, my itunes library grew three times bigger. In that period of time, I was also introduced to Future and Thugger. My loves.
Then I came across so many underground artists on soundcloud, which opened up a pathway to a whole new world of music. Music is not just about the words or the beat you hear. It’s a feeling. How that song makes you feel is what I began to focus on. You know that feeling when you hear a song for the first time, and you literally get this rush of excitement in your chest and you feel like you just want to scream because IT’S THAT FUCKING GOOD ?? Yes, that feeling is my favourite. I will never forget the first time I listened to Kitana by Princess Nokia. Damn.
Honestly, music saved my life. My mother was diagnosed spring of 2016 with breast cancer. Since then, my brother and I have been taking great care of her, working continuous hours to pay the bills, and overall, trying to get through one of the roughest times of our lives. It was truly a test of our strengths and capabilities. Without music being there to tune out my negative thoughts and inject my soul with positive vibes, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Music inspired me to start my own business and to finally see purpose of life.
BabyPink Collective is my dream. Whether it becomes successful or not, I am proud of the accomplishments I have done. I am truly blessed every single day.
I want to dedicate BabyPink to my mother. She is my rock, my inspiration, and my best friend. Without her, I would not be as strong as I am today.
